Objective

Design a concept for a bank that is fully digital in UAE. The operations and services of the bank should be entirely mobile for the customer – to drive the next evolution of banking. Digital banking reduces a huge amount of overheads such as staffing and branch fittings.

Market research and insights

90% of people in UAE use digital banking Digital banking in the Gulf The studies, which researched the services of 19 banks, indicate that the number of downloads and installation of banking applications ranged from 90,000 to 5.4 million, highlighting the demand from banks account holders for digital banking solutions.

Future of banking

Mobile banking (a.k.a. Neobanks) The banks that are fully digital — that have no physical branches — are called neobanks. The first popular neobanks were Simple and Moven, both American. In Europe, the leaders are Monzo and N26, from the UK and Germany respectively.

Digital banking in the Gulf

As consumers in the Gulf go digital, they are creating opportunities for innovative financial services providers to disrupt the market.

The analysis of Banking Users

The goal was to find out how people use the online banking and the mobile banking application to discover their

needs. I received the following reasons for the application use:

- Account balance check. About 85% of users;

- Bills payments and money transfers. About 60% of users;

- Viewing the transactions history. About 28% of users;

- Viewing the location of the branches and ATM on the map. About 43% of users;

- Viewing bank contact details. About 5% of users.

Conceptual model

We have determined the user’s needs about the mobile banking functions with the analysis. We

know what people expect to get from the mobile banking app main screen and the way they will

use it to solve their problems.

The conceptual UI design is based on 7 key principles :

  • Personalization

  • Transparency

  • Self-service

  • Mobile first

  • Simplicity

  • Aesthetic

  • Holistic

Intro Page - Pre login

Intro page has to be helpful and appealing, without requiring authorization/login. I decided to include:

  • Sign in inputs

  • Cardless payment like Apple pay

  • New user form

  • Branch & ATM locator

  • Bank products promotion

  • Currency converter

  • News feed

Balance and History Dashboard

So, you are logged in. Our dashboard has some cool stuff for you, all in one place:

1. Balance statement

2. Monthly income

3. Monthly expenses

4. Monthly and daily available

5. Category budgets

6. Latest transaction history

7. Quick Access menu for every transaction

One way of improving the digital banking experience is to develop more tools to help

people manage and monitor their spending.

Spending locations

This feature allows users to not just

see a list of recent transactions

with the name of the payee and

the amount. It actually displays on

a map where exactly each

transaction occurred. Many users

can probably attest to having

been in the following scenario:

1. Instant access to popular payments
2. Popular payments automatically defined
3. Predefined default bills
4. Reminders
5. Add payees

Money Transfer

There are users who want to transfer money in a very short time of about 30 seconds. Let’s imagine you’re on a vacation resting on the beach near the ocean and you can easily transfer money to any of your friends. We can make this imagination true with the help of:

1. Card-to-card transfers within one bank

2. Local and international transfers

3. Transfers to another bank account

Money Transfer via Messaging apps

Imagine being able to send money to a friend in only 30 seconds, making it easy to reimburse someone for

expenses after a party or vacation. No need to imagine, we are making that possible through

Next-generation payment platforms

Conclusion

I will add the finishing touches to the project by stating the following conclusions:

1. Banks need the UX strategy

The UX strategy will become the major one in the app development for banks for the next few years. The first thing here that banks have to do is understanding what kind of experience they want to provide for their customers.

2. Always listen to the customer’s opinion

Carefully analyze the complaints, problems and needs of the users. Provide a fast response to their problems to guarantee the increase of the satisfaction. You may be greatly surprised to get real opinions of your customers about the service.

3. Use a client-oriented approach

Shift the focus from the business strategy onto the customer. Your goal will be to provide such a service that will meet the needs of your customers.

4. Provide the digitally designed strategy

Learn what channels your clients prefer and use to make your service more available and attractive.
